How can we reduce food waste in our daily lives?

«Do we cook it to eat it or to throw it away?»

With this question–message, we actively participate in the Food Saving Action Week (29/09 – 05/10/2025). Because food waste is not just food thrown in the trash. It is a problem with economic, social, and environmental consequences.

The numbers speak for themselves, and they are truly shocking: in Greece, we throw away more than 2 million tons of food every year, while at the same time 11.2% of the population faces food insecurity. This alone reminds us that preventing food waste and practicing responsible consumption is not a trend—it is a way of life that combines social and environmental responsibility.

What can you do with simple, everyday steps?

  1. Plan your shopping: write a list before going to the supermarket.
  2. Store food properly: fruits and vegetables last longer in the fridge (except bananas).
  3. Organize your fridge: put items that expire soon at the front so you won’t forget them.
  4. Cook in moderation: prepare only what you really need.
  5. Share portions: if you cooked too much, share food with neighbors or friends.
  6. Give leftovers a second life: try simple recipes (e.g., veggie omelet, bread pie with leftover bread).
  7. Freeze for later: food you won’t eat today can be saved for tomorrow.

At Gregory’s, our goal is to eliminate food waste. Through actions such as employee training, proper stock management, offering products at lower prices during Happy Hour, and donating surplus meals to charitable causes, we contribute to a more sustainable future. And we remain committed to continuing in this direction—for a world with zero food waste.
